Genetically Altered Salmon
In the article "Fish or frankenfish? FDA Weighs Altered Salmon", written by Mary Clare Jalonick talks about a Massachusetts company, AquaBounty, that has genetically altered samon to grow faster and bigger. According to the company the fish are both enviornmental and consumer friendly, and the FDA agrees for the most part. However, other disregarding that the fish are safe and friendly, think that it will ruin our Wild Salmon population, and could potentionally be harmful in the future. "Representatives from consumer, environmental and food safety groups asked the agency to decline the company's application to market the fish" ("Fish or Frankenfish?" Jalonick). I agree with the representatives from various environmental and food safety groups. I think that the FDA should not approve these altered fish. If you approve the fish, you are opening the door for many future problems we could encounter. There are still many things we as humans do not understand and altering the growth of these fish could go horribly wrong, it is a very poorly thought out idea.
